The 6.8-kilometre Shivakala–Nyayo Tea Zone Road in Kakamega County is expected to be completed within the next three months. The project is part of the county government’s plan to improve transport, create jobs and support economic growth.
Governor Barasa praises progress
During an inspection tour, Fernandes Barasa said the KSh 468 million road will improve movement between Shirere and Mahiakalo wards in Lurambi Sub-County. He said the road will make transport easier and open up the area for trade and investment.
Roads to improve lives and business
Governor Barasa said better roads will help farmers, traders and businesses move goods more easily. Residents will also have better access to schools, health facilities and other essential services.
More road projects underway
The county government is also constructing about 40 kilometres of tarmac roads across Kakamega. Other key projects include the Manyonyi–Lumakanda Road, Malava–Shitirira Road, Malaha–Khaunga Road, Matungu–Ogallo Road and Mumias–Matawa–Indangalasia Road.
Jobs and economic growth
The road projects are creating employment opportunities for local youth while supporting local businesses. Increased construction activity is also bringing more income to communities across the county.
Other development projects continue
Apart from roads, Kakamega County is building new ECDE centres, expanding street lighting and improving access to clean and safe water. These projects aim to improve the quality of life for residents.
